The Ghana Young Generation in Nuclear (GhYGN) under the auspices of the African Young Generation Nuclear (AYGN) will hold the 3rd African Youth Nuclear Summit (AYNS20221) in Accra, Ghana on 25th – 29th October 2021, dubbed, “The impact of nuclear science and technology applications on economic recovery in Africa post COVID-19 pandemic”. The motto for this summit is “Defining Africa’s Agenda 2063”.
The Summit will bring together young people and professionals across the continent and internationally from governments, academia; nuclear research institutions, nuclear service providers; prospectus and current operators and regulators to share, exchange ideas and network on issues related to nuclear science and technology applications.
This summit seeks to:
Strengthen networks among the professionals in nuclear science and technology opening up future opportunities for the youth;
Provide a platform for leading scientists and researchers in nuclear science and technology applications to share their expert knowledge and transfer to the younger generation;
Share opportunities and encourage youth participation in nuclear related research, innovation and skills development programmes;
Expand nuclear networks among the young people in Africa so as to enhance an active participation in the International Youth Nuclear Congress and other related nuclear science and technology bodies;
Provide a platform for participants to learn ways of promoting the peaceful uses of nuclear science and technology for the welfare of mankind;
Provide a platform in which the policy makers will appreciate the benefit of embracing nuclear science and technology in its development agenda and
Develop the spirit of volunteerism and establish mechanisms for youth engagement in community services.
The Summit will attract 300 delegates from different parts of the continent and globally including international organizations, with the Ministry for Energy Ghana earmarked to deliver a keynote address.
AYNS2021 is expected to bring together international nuclear professionals and students looking to network and share their knowledge. In particular, the summit will attract young professionals who are looking to further their careers as well as senior leaders willing to share their knowledge and expertise with the future generations. Hence, an open environment will be created with interactive and unique formats to facilitate knowledge exchange, professional networking and the promotion of peaceful uses of nuclear energy and its benefits to society.
The topics that will be covered in the summit include technical and non-technical areas such as; Nuclear Medicine in improving healthcare, Nuclear Medicine Technology, Nuclear Agriculture, Radiation Processing, Quality Management Systems Energy Economics, Nuclear Safety, Security and Safeguards, Nuclear Waste Management, and other related Industry Applications. Therefore, all partners supporting this unique edition of the summit will have the opportunity to increase their visibility not only with the next generation but also key industry players and experts across an array of nuclear applications.
