The Ghana Young Generation in Nuclear (GhYGN) is the Ghana local chapter of the African Young Generation in Nuclear (AYGN), which also serves as the African regional Chapter of the International Youth Nuclear Congress (IYNC). The GhYGN is made up of young and emerging Nuclear professionals and enthusiasts interested in the safe and peaceful development, and utilization of nuclear science and technology as well as its applications in Ghana.
GHYGN is a non-profit organization that seeks to ensure the youth engagement and support within the nuclear industry and commits to capitalize on numerous professional opportunities for careers, networking and development for the youth.
The dream of establishing the GhYGN was conceived in the early days of the year 2017 when the Ghana Nuclear Power Programme took on its heels to seek the commitment of the government. At the time, it was imperative to get an organisation that is solely youth lead and non-profit, to spread the good news of nuclear science and technology in the country. Since then, a lot was done to get it established and duly registered as a non-profit organization. It was registered under the laws of Ghana on the 27th of May, 2020.
GHYGN seeks to address socio-economic issues of the country by promoting the peaceful use of nuclear science, technology and applications through education of the youth and public, and also facilitate knowledge transfer from the current generation of leading nuclear experts to the younger generations.
It is also our organization's primary goal to equip young professionals in the nuclear industry with leadership and professional developmental skills and demystifying all misconceptions regarding the use of nuclear energy to the general populace.
GHYGN has as part of its activities, the initiation of a series of events on the impact of Nuclear Science and Technology on Ghana's economy to achieve its goal of equipping the youth and the public with enough information about nuclear technology, as such, demystifying all wrong notions against nuclear.
Looking at short term objectives, it is the organization's intention to mobilize the youth through outdoor activities and discussions in order to increase its membership as well as create a platform for public discourse and the participation of events organized by GHYGN.
The organization intends to liaise with students in Nuclear institutions in providing them with the necessary information needed to equip them for a prospective career in the nuclear space.
